Asep Muhammad Ridwan, primarily known as Asep, is the main character of the series. He is an otherworlder from Earth, specifically originating from Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. After serving a prison sentence on Earth and visiting his parents' graves, he was suddenly transmigrated to the fantasy world of Rodinia.
Asep is characterized by his laid-back, highly practical, and somewhat cynical attitude. He is a heavy chain-smoker whose primary motivations often revolve around securing a steady supply of tobacco. Despite his attempts to avoid unnecessary conflicts and "play the mob character," his combat skills, tactical street smarts, and modern-world mechanical knowledge consistently place him at the center of critical regional conflicts.
Biography
[edit]Life on Earth
[edit]Asep grew up as an orphan in Bandung after his mother died during childbirth and his father passed away when Asep was eight. He turned to street brawling and gang life to survive, occasionally driving an angkot (public transport minivan) to pay his school tuition. After a massive street fight against a rival gang leader named Tajud—which left his friend Agung crippled, his friend Rendy deceased, and several others harmed—Asep was arrested and served a two-year prison sentence.
Arrival in Ardenia
[edit]Immediately after his release from prison, Asep visited his parents' graves at a public cemetery. Upon leaving, he experienced a spatial transition and found himself stranded in a vast grassland in the Kingdom of Ardenia. With no money or resources, he spent his first months performing manual labor, eventually finding employment as a peat cutter in Erja Village.
Joining Castalia
[edit]While working in Erja, Asep was confronted by the bounty hunters Stark, Karl, and Bob, who mistook him for a dangerous rogue sorcerer named Borwe due to a vague wanted poster. Asep easily subdued the trio bare-handed and subsequently offered to help them capture the real Borwe in exchange for a share of the bounty.
After successfully tracking down and defeating Borwe, Asep accompanied the group to the trade hub of Loriana. There, he met the boisterous mercenary Sylvanne, who recruited him into the Castalia Mercenary Company by promising to help resolve the regional tobacco shortage caused by the Albion blockade.
The Battle of Silvercreek
[edit]Asep assisted Castalia and Princess Adreana in exposing the treachery of Lord Commander William of the Avalon Knights. During the conflict, Asep and Karl got themselves intentionally arrested to serve as an inside extraction and distraction unit. After the battle was won, Asep officially joined Castalia's ranks as a regular mercenary.
The Liberation of Roake
[edit]Following the escalation of the Eclipse Cult's activities under Solus, Asep was tasked with a stealth infiltration of the Roake mining complex due to his unique physiological trait of having no Lumite in his blood, making him invisible to the cult's magical wards. Working alongside the local resistance led by Adeline and Idia, Asep neutralized several cult "Thralls."
He eventually encountered High Overseer Estella Aria, who became infatuated with his genetic profile as an otherworlder. Asep bypassed her spatial defense barriers using a combination of a magnesium flashbang and a modified unstable "Portable Heater" prototype, burying her under building debris and securing the team's escape.
Infiltration of the Deep Sanctum
[edit]Using his stealth capabilities, Asep successfully infiltrated the Deep Sanctum beneath the Roake mines. He assassinated the Cult's Hierarch, Solus, with a hidden blade coated in a potent alchemical neurotoxin and deployed a suppression device to destabilize the cult's artificial crystal heart, effectively breaking the backbone of the Eclipse Cult.
Abilities and Equipment
[edit]Physical Prowess and Martial Arts
[edit]- Tenaga Dalam (Inner Power): Trained in traditional Indonesian silat under "Abah Dudung," Asep can channel his breath to strike with internal vibrations. This technique bypasses external armor, scales, and bone, directly damaging internal organs. It is highly effective against magically-reinforced enemies like the Eclipse Cult's Thralls, though overusing it places a immense physical strain on Asep's body.
- Street Fighting: Asep possesses sharp instincts, rapid reaction speeds, and an unpredictable, highly efficient combat style developed during his years in Bandung's gang wars.
Otherworlder Physiology
[edit]- Zero Lumite Signature: Having been born on Earth, Asep completely lacks "Lumite" (the magical energy source of Rodinia) in his biology.
- This renders him completely immune to magical detection sensors and mind-controlling magic (such as Cardinal Castillo's mental dominance spell).
- Conversely, conventional healing magic is entirely ineffective on him; his wounds must be treated through physical bandaging, rest, and natural recovery.
Engineering and Modern Knowledge
[edit]- Drawing from his vocational high school education on Earth, Asep provides conceptual schematics to the alchemist Treste. Together, they have introduced several revolutionary technologies to Ardenia:
- MKI Pulse-Combustion Engine: A primitive engine utilizing Fire Lumite and water vapor to drive a piston and flywheel.
- The "Angkot" (Project Highway): A heavily-modified, steam-powered four-wheeled vehicle armored with salvaged breastplates.
- SAM-1 (Surface-to-Air Missile): A telekinetically-guided rocket designed to combat Albion's Wyvern Knights.
- The Compound Bow: A high-velocity bow utilizing a system of pulleys and cams to reduce draw effort while maximizing kinetic output.
Gear
[edit]- Hidden Blade Gauntlet: A fingerless leather glove equipped with a spring-loaded five-inch steel blade, modified by Treste to retract rapidly.
- Shock Glove: A prototype gauntlet designed to discharge a non-lethal electrical jolt using a Lumite lightning spell.
- Hand-Crossbow: A compact, customized crossbow used for medium-range defense.
Relationships
[edit]- Adeline: The representative of the Merlesian refugees. Asep harbors romantic feelings for her but initially kept his distance due to a fear that those close to him are destined to suffer. Following the liberation of Roake, they share a quiet, mutual understanding.
- Treste Comte Mordeau: An exiled alchemist prodigy. Despite their constant bickering, name-calling ("gremlin", "smoke-stack"), and contrasting personalities, they share a highly productive scientific partnership.
- Estella Aria: A high-ranking Eclipse Cultist. After realizing Asep is an otherworlder with no Lumite in his blood, she developed a obsessive desire to capture him for genetic propagation. Asep strongly dislikes her "preachy, clingy" demeanor and actively avoids her.
- Karl & Stark: Fellow Castalia mercenaries and close friends. Karl frequently teases Asep about his love life, while Stark acts as a grounding, responsible squad leader.
- Jaya (Peter Willson): Asep's closest friend from Bandung who died in a motorcycle accident on Earth. He was reincarnated as a commoner in Albion and drafted into the Iron Thorned Knights. When they reunite on the battlefield near the old sawmill, they agree to fight to their limits despite being on opposing sides of the war.
